Deckled Edge Wedding Invitations

What is the definition of “deckled edge” paper? This term is commonly tossed around for wedding invitations. So today I am going to clarify for you what a deckled edge wedding invitation is.
Here is a deckled edge wedding invitation I designed with hand painted gold ink and blue watercolor. This deckled edge paper is made in Italy and is NOT handmade. It is slightly less expensive than handmade paper, but comes in unusual European sizes.
True deckled edge paper is hand made. Usually the edges of the paper are hand torn to create an organic look. But with today’s inventions, there are some paper stocks that have a deckled edge which is made with a machine, and the paper is not handmade, but it has a texture to it that can appear handmade.
This deckled edge wedding invitation is on handmade paper made from recycled cotton, and made in the USA. The edges are deckled….but not hand torn. Each piece of paper is actually made in a paper mold, so the edges naturally form like this when the paper is drying. Beautiful! This deckled edge paper cannot be put through a laser or ink jet printer, it should only be letterpress printed.
The above deckled edge hand made paper wedding invitation features paper from Asia. In the heavier weight it can only be letterpress printed on, as seen in these photos. In the lighter weight it is not as impressive for wedding invitations but can be run through a desktop printer and easily hand written on.
I hope this clarifies for you what deckled edge means for wedding invitations. Please contact me today for a price quote. Generally speaking hand made paper will cost around $2 each, and printing and design fees are additional. Most of my deckled edge wedding invitations are letterpress printed. My minimum order is $450 for just a deckled edge wedding invitation letterpress printed. A full suite will start at $1,000 and increase depending on how many pieces and amount of details.
